Strong Women of Opera-Portraits is my new project. I began this project one day on a whim. After a day of painting and listening to an opera over the radio, I grabbed a small canvas, and tried to portray everything I could feel in the title character. Before the paint was dry, I knew that I had to do more. Now, my ultimate goal is to create an exhibit that can be displayed throughout the United States. Opera has been the single most influential art form in my life. I want to share the transformative effect it had on me, and introduce it to people who are unfamiliar with its wonders.
To help support this project, I’ve built a page on Patreon, which is a fabulous platform for creators of every type. Please check it out and consider supporting the arts–or at least leave me a comment! I love feedback!
I am working on a series of 24″ x 24″ portraits. These are not intended as a representation of any particular singer or production, but rather a visual display of each woman’s unique essence, her soul. I am endeavoring to combine the effect of the composer’s music, the librettist(s) ‘s words, and (when applicable) knowledge of the source from which the plot was derived with important elements of her culture and intended time-period to produce a well-flavored visual.
